How To Make Book Covers

Making fabrics book covers are super quick and easy. I’m going to give you an example of making one for your textbook but you can make them for any binder journal or hardcover book as well. The materials you will need are:

• Fabric
• Thread
• Scissors
• Tape Measure
• Fabric Marker
• Pins
• Iron

Step 01: Measure And Cut The Fabric

First of all, closed your book and then measure from the edge of the back cover, around to the edge of the front. I am taking an example of 19 inches, then measure the height as well which is I am taking as an example 11 inches. After that, add 8 inches to the west and 2 inches to the height and cut out a piece of fabric. So, my example piece is 27 x 13 inches because I took an example of 19 inches and I added up 8 inches to the west, so it’s 27 inches. Added 2 inches to the height, so it’s 13 inches. I mostly use outdoor fabric for my textbooks as it’s durable, water, and stain-resistant but you could use a lightweight cotton print or a drapery fabric too.

Step 02: Sew The Pockets

Now, fold in the end about a quarter of an inch and iron. Once you are done iron, then sew down the fold on both sides. After that, lay the book or textbook flat on the right side of the fabric and center it. There should be about four inches or a little less on the sides. Then, fold the fabric in, over the ends of the cover, and pin on the top and bottom.

When you are done that as well then do make sure it fits when closed. Now, mark a line about an 8 of an inch from the top and bottom of the book on all corners. Sew on the marked lines and then clip the excess fabric from the corners and turn right side out.

Iron the ends flat. Then, fold the top and bottom in to match the pockets and iron. Slide your book cover into the pockets that you have just made and that’s it your book cover is ready to use now. So, let’s back to your school, and decorate your binders or textbooks. If you have done studying in school, so you can even use books or binders covers in a decorative way on your house shelves.
