How to Tell If Eggs are Bad – Spoil or Not
Today, we’re going to let you know about how to tell if eggs are bad, without any further detail let’s begin…
How To Tell If Eggs Are Bad
In this article, I’m gonna let you how to test your eggs to see if they’re good or bad. It’s like you buy eggs from the store, they have that date on there, but how do you know if your egg is good or bad? … I will tell you two simple ways for testing your eggs, so let’s move on to our first test.
No 01: Check Date
The first test is really super simple. It is the info on the carton itself provided by the company. The easiest way to tell if your eggs are fresh is to use three-digit numbers next to the sell-by date. The three-digit number is actually a Julian date. 060 represents March 1st and 335 represents December 1st, similarly, 002 represents January 2nd and 336 represents December 2nd. On this date, the eggs are packed and clean.
So, if the number shows 031 and the date is 1st February, then those are pretty fresh eggs, but if it actually shows 301 and the date is 1st February, then those eggs are really, really old or you’ve traveled back in time somehow. Either way, not a good deal. That’s the easiest way to tell if your eggs are fresh, but then there’s another thing you can do. Let’s jump into our second way of testing eggs.
No 02: Float Test
The float test is super simple. So how do you do the float test?… Well, if you have a good egg that says good, so you take your egg and you just drop it in a jar of water. When you drop it in that jar of water, if it’s good, it actually will sink to the bottom.
The reason for that is a good egg, there’s an air pocket there. There’s a little tiny air pocket when the actual egg is laid. That air pocket increases as the age of the egg increases, so it gets bigger. If you have a good egg, it’s gonna sink to the bottom because it’s actually good and that air pocket is small.
If you have a bad egg, that will have a larger air pocket. As a result, when you drop the bad egg into the jar of water, it’s gonna float to the top. So, what you want is an egg that sinks to the bottom and kind of rests. That’s the difference between a good one and a bad one, and that’s it, that’s all it takes. That’s how you can test your eggs.
